Welcome AmeriCorps Gadsden Reads
AmeriCorps Gadsden Reads has been serving students in elementary, middle, and high schools in the Gadsden County School District since 1997. The main focus is to help students who are not reading below their grade level. Presently, we are serving approximatley 250 level one students in 7 elementary and one middle school.
The benefits for AmeriCorps members are a montlhy stipend of 950.00 full-time, 502.91 part-time, and 113 Quarter-time for 8 months. The program provides Healthcare insurance and childcare for full-time members only. Once a member has completed the hours of service required the member receives an education award in the amount 4725 full-time, 2363.50 part-time, and 1250 quarter-time from the Corporation of National and Community Service. This award can be used to pay existing student loans or to enrolled in college or a higher education institution.
AmeriCorps Gadsden Reads has 36 members who served in classrooms all day and 8 members who served in after-school programs througout the district. Presently, we have 4 dual enrolled seniors who receives a small monthly stipend while still in high school. We are the only AmeriCorps program in the state that gives high school students a monthly stipend.
