Biography

Mrs. Joanette R. Thomas earned her B.S. degree in Business Administration from Flagler College, Tallahassee, FL in 2003 and obtained her MBA in 2009 from Ashford University, Iowa.

Mrs. Thomas is a member of First Elizabeth M. B. Church where she serves faithfully as the youth church school instructor and as the coordinator of several community programs designed to help the elderly and the underprivileged.

Mrs. Thomas worked for the Department of Insurance for several years. In this role she was responsible for claims and adjustments for the State of Florida. Her broad knowledge of the insurance system gained her recognition within the Department. Ms. Thomas’ next career move was to Tallahassee Community College (TCC). While at TCC, she was the liaison between the Professional Development Center satellite office and the Department of Human Resources. During her tenure with TCC she maintained payroll records, personnel files, attendance and leave records, coordinated training calendars.

After her service with TCC, Ms. Thomas’ was drawn to a career for which she had a great passion for and she became a teacher. As a teacher, she found extraordinary ways to positively impact the academic achievement of her students. Some of her teaching duties included before-school tutoring, test taking strategies, and analyzed diagnostic exams in order to determine the appropriate individual strategies needed to improve academic achievement of struggling students. She also served as co-sponsor of the “Builders Club”

Her achievements in the educational arena led to another career move to the Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Office as the Pre-K Coordinator for Gadsden County Schools. In this role, she provided leadership in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of Pre-K programs and services designed to meet the early learning needs of Gadsden’s children. She created sample lesson plans that included technology integration and she developed and updated the project website which was used as the primary communication vehicle for the entire Pre-K Office.

Mrs. Thomas also assisted Gadsden by sharing her time with the Finance Department in many different roles, including acting specialist for the district’s maintenance records for copiers and assisting with the operation of the Food Service and Healthy Food Programs. Mrs. Thomas was responsible for the submission of several federal.

Mrs. Thomas moved to the Federal Programs, Office in 2011 within the school district and now serves as the Supervisor of Title I. In this role her responsibilities include Title I private schools,  21st Century Oversight for the district 21st Century programs, and coordination of the Office with the district Parent Resource Center. In every role throughout her professional career, Mrs. Thomas has done an outstanding job at implementing programs with fidelity.
